January
Price From: $6,300pps
Wildlife is generally fantastic throughout the year in the Ngorongoro Crater. The Big Five are all here to be seen if you are lucky. During these slightly wetter months the water levels in Lake Magadi rise and attract impressive flocks of lesser flamingos. At Serengeti Safari Camp the rains in the southern Serengeti have drawn the wildebeest south in search of fresh grazing on the nutrient rich short grass plains. This is where the wildebeest would love to call home, and where a million wildebeest start their life every year.

Wildlife is generally fantastic throughout the year in the Ngorongoro Crater. The Big Five are all here to be seen if you are lucky. During these slightly wetter months the water levels in Lake Magadi rise and attract impressive flocks of lesser flamingos. At Serengeti Safari Camp this is when the wildebeest calving season starts, a real bonanza for predators. In the woodland, giraffe, elephant and buffalo are generally easy to locate. This area of the Serengeti is all about the vast open plains, iconic scenes and is fantastic for big cats like cheetah and lion.

During these slightly wetter months the water levels in Lake Magadi rise and attract impressive flocks of lesser flamingos. At Serengeti Safari Camp the wildebeest calving
season is in full swing now, providing good chances of witnessing a birth. It is often quite dry at this time and the herds might split into smaller units scattered around the southern plains in search of the best conditions. In late March, the Long Rains start; this is when the Migration is at its most impressive, with vast numbers spread across the plains.
April
Price From: $6,300pps
This is one of our favourite times to do this safari. Yes, you may experience a little more rain that other times of year, but generally there are far fewer people and still fabulous resident game. This is true Tanzanian icons without the crowds. The Crater is bursting with lush greenery, birds in breeding plumage, incredible wildlife and giraffes gather in large herds around camp. This is one of the best times to explore the eastern part of the Serengeti ecosystem, especially the beautiful Gol
Mountains. The scenery is spectacular and the vast numbers of animals add to the drama.

June
Price From: $6,300pps
Wildlife is generally fantastic throughout the year in the Crater. The Big Five are all here to be seen if you are lucky. As the season dries out so does the grass on the Crater floor making spotting the more elusive beasts like the serval easier. With the Serengeti ecosystem also continuing to dry out, the herds continue westwards, towards the Grumeti River in the Western Corridor. The riverine forest here harbors plentiful buffalo and elephant, while there are many hippo and huge crocs in the river; the latter are hungry after a long fast, leading to explosive action when the herds come down to drink.
July
Price From: $6,300pps
Wildlife is generally fantastic throughout the year in the Crater. The Big Five are all here to be seen if you are lucky. As the season dries out so does the grass on the Crater floor making spotting the more elusive beasts like the serval easier. All those hungry mouths rapidly deplete the grass and water in the Western Corridor and pretty soon the wildebeest start to move on. The migration can be spread over a huge distance, with the first zebra herds arriving in the north Serengeti early as mid June with big herds of wildebeest following later in the month.
August
Price From: $6,300pps
Wildlife is generally fantastic throughout the year in the Crater. The Big Five are all here to be seen if you are lucky. The dry season is well under way. The migration now settles into the northern Serengeti in a big way, with the herds criss crossing between the Maasai Mara and the Serengeti. The dry conditions mean that they congregate near water, especially the Mara River, where the hungry crocs are waiting. There is a good chance of crossings now.

Your Nomad guide will collect you either from your flight or from your hotel in Arusha and you will set off together for the Ngorongoro Highlands. This drive takes you west along the Maasai Steppe. Ascending from the valley floor you will climb into the highlands, over the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, and right up onto the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 1 - 3
Entamanu Ngorongoro
At Entamanu Ngorongoro we define our version of this iconic wilderness. Our site allows us to drive down into the Crater soon after dawn and well before the crowds. Our guides, because they know wilderness is a pleasure best taken alone, are incredibly clever at avoiding people while showing you breathtaking wildlife. We love to walk, and walking along the Crater rim with our highly trained Nomad guides, an armed scout and a local Maasai it is a chance to learn about the smaller things, and the ancient Maasai culture. A visit to the nearby Maasai boma, to which we have exclusive access is an experience not to be missed. Read more about Entamanu Ngorongoro.

Travel with your guide from Entamanu Ngorongoro to Serengeti Safari Camp
Wave an early goodbye to Entamanu Ngorongoro as you set off for Serengeti Safari Camp. Depending on the time of year you may fly to Serengeti Safari Camp, or drive your way down with your guide. This journey is one of our favourites in Tanzania. Descending off the Crater and onto the Serengeti plains gives you a real appreciation for the scale of this epic wilderness.

Days 3 - 6
Serengeti Safari Camp
Serengeti Safari Camp was the first of it’s kind. It was designed with a purpose in mind; to be in the best possible location to view the wildebeest migration as it covers hundreds of miles of the Serengeti each year. So it should come as no surprise that it really hasn't changed much since it's early pioneering days. This camp is all about our fabulous guides getting you right into the action. Be it the drama of a river crossing, the awesome breathtaking moment of seeing the herds stretch for impossible miles, or a huddle of cheetah cubs in the long grass we are in the thick of it. Read more about Serengeti Safari Camp.

Fly from the Serengeti to Arusha
After a leisurely breakfast, pack your bags and take a short last game drive back to the airstrip to catch your return flight back to Arusha and on home. This flight offers stunning views of the Ngorongoro Highlands and often passes directly over the Crater itself.
