Sand Rivers superstars shine bright

22 September 2023

Wherever possible we look to inspire the next generation to realise the importance of tourism on conservation and the opportunities that can spring from the industry.

Recently two of our shining stars from Sand Rivers, Bernie and Sarah, headed out of camp to attend an inspirational careers day at a local school for girls in Morogoro. They spent the whole day with the girls talking to them about their journey with Nomad, showing the many prospects out there and pushing them to believe that anything is possible.

A brilliant day and a huge thanks to Bernie and Sarah! Well done team!

Thank you Nomad from the bottom of our hearts for sending Bernadette and Sarah to SEGA for our Career Inspiration Day. They were so inspiring, and several students even ran to hug Bernadette after she so generously shared her journey.

It was wonderful having them stay with us, so we had more time to spend with them. We would love to have them back!

Meet Bernie

Bernie joined Nomad ten years ago joining Sand Rivers as a chef. Very quickly her culinary talents shone through, and she was quickly promoted in the kitchen to become Head Chef. After seven years cooking up a storm as head chef, Bernie took the opportunity to move front of house. Bernie is now an integral part of the Sand Rivers management team. Her attention to detail and love for the camp means she works tirelessly to make the camp a brilliant success.

She is loved by all guests that meet her, Bernie has such a sweet, calm and open nature – thank you for being such a rockstar!

Meet Sarah

Sarah is another member of the Nomad Sand Rivers team on their way to great things. She is our fantastic shop keeper at Sand Rivers, helping clients pick out beautiful local gems and gifts.

Within a short period of time, she has learnt on the job, acquired a range of new skills and experience in hospitality industry. Her passion for the industry and the camp is infectious and she has engaged in community projects wherever possible and time allows!
