Watch the Serengeti burst into life

3 nights in Entamanu, Ngorongoro | 3 nights in Serengeti Safari Camp

This is safari’s best kept secret – experience northern Tanzania’s baby boom as the wildebeest calf in the lush landscape of the green short grass plains. In January and February, follow the herd (and the predators they attract) through one of Nomad’s favourite stomping grounds.

Head to the Highlands

Begin your safari driving from the bustling town of Arusha and head west along the Maasai Steppe. A journey of around four hours will see you skirt the edges of Lake Manyara National Park and through the towns of Mto Wa Mbu and Karatu, before you ascend over the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, and onto the rim of the iconic Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 1

Arrival at Entamanu

Once through the park gates you’ll continue to climb, heading to the northwest side, where our wild abode sits on the edge of the iconic Crater.

Our driveway is 9km of private road, so we're blissfully secluded in what can be a crowded space... and we occupy the only spot in the world where you can see the Crater and the Serengeti simultaneously.

Day 2

Game drives and Maasai encounters

As dawn breaks in front of camp, you’ll be awoken with fresh coffee and tea. Blurry eyed and full of safari excitement, our guests at Entamanu enjoy easy access into the Crater well before the crowds. Our guides, because they know wilderness is a pleasure best taken alone, are incredibly clever at avoiding people while showing you breathtaking wildlife. You’ll enjoy a bush breakfast in the Crater with an epic mornings game viewing before heading back to camp for lunch.

Day 2

Maasai Boma walk

We love to walk, especially at this time of year when the air is clear and bright. So, after an afternoon siesta, why not head out on foot with a local Maasai walking guide and your Nomad guide to learn about the smaller things, and the ancient Maasai culture en-route to the nearby Maasai boma, to which we have exclusive access is an experience not to be missed.

Day 3

Entamanu, Ngorongoro

Enjoy a restful morning in camp soaking up the Highland surroundings before heading to your private picnic spot for lunch on top of the world. With a glass of wine in hand looking over the vast Crater, it’s easy to imagine you could be the first person to discover this extraordinary place.

After lunch and a shady siesta, why not head back to camp on foot? Accompanied by your guide and scout you’ll get stunning views of the Crater floor and arrive at camp for a well-earned slice of delicious cake.

This is the wild side of the Crater and so it is important to pack warm throughout the year.

Entamanu to Serengeti Safari Camp

Wave an early goodbye to the lovely Entamanu team and set off for the Serengeti. This is a beautiful drive watching the change in landscape and ecosystem. You’ll begin to appreciate the scale of this epic wilderness.

Day 4

Serengeti Safari Camp

Serengeti Safari Camp was the first of its kind. It was designed with a purpose in mind; to be in the best possible location to view the wildebeest migration as it covers hundreds of miles of the Serengeti each year. At this time of year, our seasonally mobile home from home is set up on the southern plains where it all begins for half a million wildebeest, all born over a matter of weeks.

Day 5

Be part of the action

Staying at Serengeti Safari Camp will book you a front row seat to this wildlife spectacle. The awesome breathtaking moment of seeing the herds stretch for miles, as far as the eye can see!

Day 6

The Serengeti bursting into life

Over the few days in camp, follow the herd but also the predators they attract; huddles of cheetah contemplating the next strike or prides of lions stalking the wildebeest, zebra and huge groups of gazelles. The plains are alive at this time of year, and you will feel like you are part of your very own wildlife documentary!

Memories to last a lifetime

You can choose to hop on a flight back to Arusha from the Serengeti or if you’d prefer to keep going with your guide, there is also the option to drive and loop back to Arusha.
