The Map Makers of the Serengeti

30 July 2026

There is a version of a Serengeti safari that most guests experience: the wildebeest migration, the game drive, the sundowners. And then there is everything else. The little mobile safari camp packing up, moving and setting up again behind the scenes; the people who make it possible; and the decades of knowledge that make it all look effortless.

The Map Makers of the Serengeti is a short film that goes behind the scenes of Serengeti Safari Camp in Tanzania, following the people who keep this small mobile camp moving alongside the Great Migration.

This is the story of one big space, one small safari camp, and the people who make the journey possible.

The people behind the journey

There is a version of the Serengeti that most safari guests experience: the wildebeest migration, the game drive and the sundowners. Then there is everything happening behind the scenes.

The Map Makers of the Serengeti follows guide Ally Kea through the height of the Great Migration, reading the landscape and the movement of the herds as he has done for more than 25 years.

Back at Serengeti Safari Camp, camp manager Kanaeli Nanyaro and cook Daudi Loringa are part of the team keeping this small mobile camp moving through the Serengeti. Tents are taken down, kitchens packed, furniture folded, power and plumbing lifted, and everything rebuilt again in the right place for the next stage of the migration.

Most guests never see the experience, teamwork and decades of knowledge behind a mobile safari camp in Tanzania. This film tells that story.
