In memory of Nathan Losaru

30 July 2021

Nathan was a much-loved member of the Nomad family and a well-known character on the safari scene, not to mention one of our longest-serving and most wonderful guides.

Some of you will have been lucky enough to meet Nathan, or to have been guided by him. He was a much-loved member of the Nomad family and a well-known character on the safari scene, not to mention one of our longest-serving and most wonderful guides.

We were devastated by his sudden passing earlier this year, and his loss will be deeply felt by many.

Mark, Milly and Mkombe were our founders in Northern Tanzania. They really believed in the promotion of local guides as well as the support of local communities, and Mark shared these words about Nathan:

Quote

Nathan was truly one of the Nomad originals and it seems impossible that it was over 20 years ago that he started out as a young cook working alongside Milly in the simplest of kitchens in Nomad’s first mobile camp.

His sunny disposition, care for others and sheer determination saw him climb rapidly through the ranks to become one of our most experienced and popular guides, developing his own loyal following of admirers around the world.

His progression within Nomad epitomises everything we strive to achieve for our team and his tragic death is nothing short of heartbreaking for all of us. Our thoughts are with Rose and the children, of whom he was so devoted and proud and who will always be considered part of the Nomad family, amongst which Nathan himself was such an inspiration.

Educating his children to the highest possible standard was of enormous importance to Nathan, and is something he would definitely have wanted continued. On behalf of his fellow guides and many friends at Nomad, we have set up this GoFundMe page to raise funds for his wife Rose and their four children. (If anyone wishes to discuss funding for education specifically, do get in touch about the best way to make that happen.)

Nathan's loss was a terrible blow, but times like these make us grateful for the closeness of our own Nomad family, and kindness and friendship of our community and partners - so thank you.
