Spectacular National Park & Brilliant Rustic Bush Camp

We have just returned from a 10 day safari in Southern Tanzania, and we used Nomad lodges/bushcaps across 3 sites (Selous, Ruaha, Katavi) - all were very special. Kigelia Ruaha is run by Ken and his exceptional team of staff and guides. Accommodation is in large tents that are well sealed from the elements and bugs, although we saw no mosquito's and only a few flies when we visited. From the tent, we enjoyed watching Bush Buck, Mongoose, Impala and Baboon to the front, and having a bull elephant barely two metres from our bed for much of one night. But you don't feel insecure with any of it, just immersed in the real bush. The advantage of Southern Tanzania is that is is FAR less visited than the North. We sat watching a leopard one morning on our own for 30 mins before any other jeep arrived, and similarly sat amongst a pride of lions with only a handful of other keeps around. Magical. Rapha & Panda (yes, sounds like a TV cop show!) were our special guiding team, showing expertise, flexibility and care throughout. Particularly special was the walking safari early one morning for 3 hours. We learned so much about the bush. At lunch and in the evenings (game drives totalled 8-9 hours each day if you want to do that) the food was excellent, and we could enjoy the magical starlit sky.
